Learn more about CCC- our values, our committments, and our history below!
We Are Committed to Sustainability:
All of our shipping materials are 100% recyclable, and most of them are made from recycled material.
Items you may see in your package that are made from recycled material include:
- Our ‘thank you’ cards: Printed on 100% post consumer waste, made with 100% wind power, are carbon neutral, fully recyclable, biodegradable, printed with water-based ink, and are processed chlorine-free.- Our mailing boxes: Made from 100% recycled post consumer waste, are fully recyclable and biodegradable. - Our tissue paper: Made from 100% recycled fibers, 20% consumer waste / 80% post industrial waste. It is made in the USA, is printed in water-based ink, and processed without chlorine. It is recyclable and biodegradable. - Our “please recycle”stickers: Made from 100% recycled post consumer waste and are recyclable.
We utilize craft tape and alternatives to bubble wrap to minimize plastic.
Come to think of it, none of our shipping materials are made from plastic!
Glass and aluminum are able to be recycled an endless amount of times. Because of this, those are the materials that we strive to use the most in our product packaging. 90% of our product packaging is plastic free with the exception of pumps, spray nozzles, and our dropper caps- we don’t know of a plastic-free alternative to these, but are currently on the lookout for a company that uses recycled plastic to make them.
Half of our product labels are made from recycled material from 100% post-consumer waste. The other half needed to be water-proof and we haven’t found a recycled option for these (but we are hopeful!).
We try to give you the option to customize your experience to suite your preferences and lifestyle. We believe this is how we will all be the most sustainable for the long Haul.
As Anne-Marie Bonneau said,
“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
We also offer refills so that you have the option to help cut down on the demand for packaging. With the refill program, you keep your pumps, nozzles, or dropper caps and we will send you a replacement bottle or jar with an aluminum lid.
We source sustainably by buying our ingredients from companies who practice sustainable sourcing and practices.
To give an example:
In order to put in a wrench in the unsustainable practice of Argan oil, the source that we get our argan oil from chose a supplier that ‘not only looks after the Argan trees but also the local farmers in rural Morocco. They have invested in solar energy, water-saving harvesting techniques, and pesticide-free growth. In addition, [their] supplier focuses heavily on living wage jobs and opportunities for local workers, providing training for villagers in their community and growing in partnership with them.’
We cover the cost for carbon-neutral shipping on all orders at no cost to you.
We Are Committed to Integrity:
Intention Is Everything
It’s the one ingredient that goes into every single product. We pour love, gratitude, and healing intention into each batch. Sending you products that are mixed with positive energy to aid in growth, nourish your follicles, uplift, and empower you.
By all, we mean: All humans (all races and ethnicities, all colors, all genders, all sexual orientations), all animals, and all of earth.
Our ingredients are not only safe, they are carefully selected to ensure that they will serve your hair and scalp. We like to keep it transparent and as natural as possible. All products at Consciously Curly Co are non-toxic. We will not send you something that is potentially harmful just to save a buck. You are a person, not a profit. This is what we expect from the companies we support, and it’s how we promise to always treat you.
Consciously Curly Co's Mission IS

Meet Dom (29) - Owner+Founder / Sole Employee
Will stop to look at all mushrooms, mindblown by every track Tash Sultana puts out, and will never turn down a cup of coffee.
Favorite Show: Anything quirky/funny/light-hearted: Twin Peaks, Portlandia, Gilmore Girls... But I mean, I also really liked History Channel's Vikings with Travis Femmel.
When away from CCC I'm probably: somewhere in the forest
Favorite sustainable swap: pizza or casserole made from whatever is leftover in the fridge so it doesn't get thrown away. Sounds gross, tastes bomb.
How you take your coffee: "black as midnight on a moonless night" :) No but seriously, I will drink it just about any way.
It all began in....
.... Southern Utah, Actually.
I was living there, in a van. I worked in Zion National Park at the time and was studying biology and environmental Science. I was deep into environmentalism and had made many sustainable swaps to fit my conscious lifestyle. The one thing that I was unable to find a sustainable solution for was hair care. As a woman of color, hair products are an essential part of my self-care routine, and no one was making them for women of color in the sustainable self-care industry at the time. I was going through an insane amount of plastic bottles, AND my hair still wasn't as healthy as I desired it to be. So in 2017, I started making my own products and packaging them in refillable, recycleable glass jars.
It started off with a basic flaxseed gel, and some whipped shea butter with essential oils. But it wasn't enough. I kept evolving the products and expanding the ingredients.
Then, in 2019...
I moved to Oregon
Amongst the busyness of moving and finding a new job, I temporarily stopped making my products and opted for an 'old faithful' that I knew would get the job done.
* I broke out everywhere*
Seriously. Everywhere that my hair touched, I broke out. To say I was alarmed was an understatement. I threw the product away, and made time to make more of my own. I started doing more research as to why this happened, and I just sort of... spiraled.
I was committed. Then it hit me, that I could, and should share this with others.
I opened Consciously Curly Co in 2020. I did a soft launch of products in August of 2020 and officially launched in October of 2020. I haven't looked back since.
Talk about changes...
I'll be the first to admit
That I had absolutely no clue how to run a business when I opened. And it showed. But I stuck with it and committed to learning. I'm still am.
What started as me sharing products that worked for my hair has turned into offering a wide variety of products for all different hair types, porosities, and locations. As well as making myself available to help one-on-one with my peep's hair.
That meant a lot of changes... And then some.
I choke up at the fact that people have stuck with CCC through those changes. If your're reading this, thank you. I know who you are and I am so grateful.
That brings us to now...
So here we are
Consciously Curly Co is free of silicones, sulfates, PEG's, animal testing, phlalates, formaldehydes, parabens, artificial colors, and a whole lot more.
All products are made by hand, in small batches.
While Consciously Curly Co has something for all hair types-straight to textured, I wanted curly to be in the company name so that people like me, who had textured and curly hair, would know that there is a company that honors their natural hair AND the environment.
While I have seen some improvement in terms of representation in the self-care industry, the sustainable hair-care corner is still severely lacking inclusivity. CCC is bridging that gap.
